Welcome to the complete guide to buying Huntington Beach Waterfront homes for sale! When one pictures luxury real estate, your mind automatically imagines waterfront beauties. There is something about a home on the water that is truly special and luxurious. And I believe that there is no greater city in the world to have a waterfront home than Huntington Beach, California. Huntington Beach has come a long way since its beginnings. Once known as a little oil surf town, it is now one of the most sought-after real estate markets in the world.
There are two areas in Huntington Beach where you can own waterfront homes. The downtown Huntington Beach area or the Huntington Beach harbour. Both areas offer different: lifestyles, home types, and views of the water. How does one know which area to reside in? That’s a decision that only that individual can make. You need a true expert of the city and also of the homes to help guide you in this multimillion-dollar purchase.
Fortunately for you, I have been a Huntington Beach native my whole life and have insight into the knowledge of the city, unlike any other person. I have also been a Huntington Beach real estate agent for over a decade plus and have sold waterfront homes both downtown as well as in the harbour. Below I am going to break down each area and style of home for you. This way, you can decide what area and type of property is right for you. I’ll be your virtual guide as we take a journey to the most luxurious parts of Huntington Beach!
Downtown Huntington Beach
Along Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), starting from 7th street all the way to Goldenwest, you will notice huge homes right on PCH with unobstructed views of the sparkling blue Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island. It’s one of the most breathtaking views in all of Orange County and California. Homes along this area have housed some of the world’s most wealthy and popular people. Most notably: Kobe Bryant (notice the home with a basketball court next to it) and Paul Walker – just to name a few. What makes these homes so appealing isn’t just the views but the lifestyle that goes along with it. Downtown Huntington Beach is the most active spot in all of Orange County. An easy walk or bike ride from your ocean view home to main street, The Strand, or the Huntington Beach pier. You have so much that goes on each week and throughout the year. With big events like the 4th of July parade, the USA Open of surfing, AVP volleyball tournament, the Pacific Airshow, countless concerts on the sand, etc…
The downtown Huntington Beach lifestyle is active with all the bars, restaurants, and most notably the new development of Pacific City. Along with all the big events that go on downtown, it also has a locals night on Tuesdays. Main Street is shut down each Tuesday night for a farmers market, music and shopping. Stroll the streets freely from PCH to Orange street as it’s shut down for pedestrians only to enjoy local food and music. If you love lots to do and being active, then this is where you should buy your Huntington Beach waterfront home for sale.

Huntington Harbour
In the north end of town, Huntington Beach has its Harbour. The homes that sit on the water are massive. Huntington Beach Homes For Sale In the harbour are the most expensive in Huntington Beach and some of the biggest in size in the city. These waterfront homes sit on one of the harbours 5 islands: Davenport, Gilbert, Humboldt, Admiralty, and Trinidad. Trinidad is considered the most luxurious of the five. The views of the harbour differ from island to island and where you are located on each island. If your waterfront home is located on the main channel, you will get views of the ocean as well as the boasts that pass by. You will also have front-row seats at the Cruise of Lights. This happens every year at Christmas time, and people decorate their boats and cruise around the Islands showing off their decorations. Being on the main channel makes it easier to hop on your yacht and get to sea quickly and with ease. However, your oceanfront home will have less privacy as compared to a harbour home not located on the main channel.
Some people prefer being nestled away from the main channel, making it a more private oasis. Although getting out to sea with your boat is a little more tricky, it is worth the privacy and quietness of being tucked away.
The Huntington Harbour area really feels like its own city. Quiet and away, you can enjoy a slow and low-key lifestyle. If you like to relax and have an island culture, then the Harbour area is perfect for you. If you have a boat and love water sports, then this is the place to buy your Huntington Beach waterfront home.
